If you do not have an outside light that is automatically triggered when anyone approaches the house, it might help with the security of your home to have one fitted. This would enable you to see anyone who knocks on your door at night, making it easier for you to decide whether to open your door to the visitor or not.

You may also find a door chain useful, as it allows you to open the door part way to see who is there before letting someone into your home.
