Disabled Facilities Grant

If you are disabled and changes are needed to your home to enable you to continue living there, then you may be entitled to a grant from your local council. The grant can be used for types of work including:

  • widening doors
  • installing ramps
  • adapting heating systems
  • lighting controls
  • improving access to rooms and facilities

An Occupational Therapist will assess your circumstances and suggest the adaptations required. You can obtain an application form from the housing or environmental health department of your local council.

Please note it is important that you apply for the grant before you begin any work. The maximum grant amount payable in England is £30,000 and this may be paid in instalments or as a full payment when the work has been completed.
